The army launched a renewed special operation in Rayer Bazar, Mohammadpur, early Thursday, arresting 11 suspects, including a man wanted in 10 criminal cases, amid rising gang and criminal activity in the area.
The operation also yielded locally made weapons and a significant quantity of drugs.
According to sources from the Bosila Army Camp, the overnight raid took place in Cancer Lane, Rayer Bazar, from 12:30am to 3:00am on Thursday. This marked the second consecutive operation in the area within 48 hours.
Among those detained was Rubel alias City Rubel, 40, wanted in 10 police cases. Others arrested included Joy, 22; Kudrat, 20; Ratan, 22; Md Joy Hasan, 22; Sahdul, 24; Russel, 18; Md Al-Amin, 22; Md Belal Hossain, 25; Faruk, 25; and Kausar, 24.
The army recovered two locally made sharp knives and 484 pellets of heroin during the raid.
A senior officer of the 46th Independent Infantry Brigade said, “Residents of Rayer Bazaar have long suffered due to gang and criminal activities. These successive operations have brought relief to the community, who have expressed their gratitude to the army.”
All detainees will be handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for legal proceedings.
Authorities have urged locals to report any information regarding gangs, extortionists, or criminals to the nearest army camp.
