A group of youths allegedly entered the office of an official at the National Orthopaedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NITOR) in Dhaka on Saturday, brandished firearms and threatened him over the recruitment of outsourcing staff.
The incident took place around 11:45am in the office of Assistant Director (Administration) Rashidul Alam at the hospital, widely known as Pangu Hospital.
According to hospital staff, a group described as local criminals forcibly entered the office and demanded that their preferred candidates be recruited for upcoming outsourcing or contractual positions.
The group allegedly threatened the official with “serious consequences” if their demands were not met before leaving the scene.
The incident triggered panic among doctors, officials and employees at the hospital.
Preliminary police investigations suggest the suspects are linked to a political party active in Ward 27, according to law enforcement officials.
Later hospital authorities filed a written complaint with the local police station.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam confirmed that an investigation was underway.
“We are collecting CCTV footage to identify those involved in the incident,” he said.
