Argentina beat Honduras 2-0 in an international friendly at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, as the reigning world champions continued their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Coach Lionel Scaloni used the match to test his squad and build momentum ahead of the tournament. Argentina controlled possession from the start and created most of the early chances.
Honduras defended well for much of the first half but fell behind in the 37th minute. Lautaro Martinez scored from the penalty spot after Thiago Almada was brought down inside the box.
Argentina went into the break with a 1-0 lead and remained in control after halftime.
The second goal arrived in the 54th minute. Martinez turned provider as he set up Giovanni Simeone, who calmly finished to double Argentina’s advantage.
Honduras tried to fight back but found it difficult to break through Argentina’s organised defence. The South American side managed the game comfortably and protected their lead until the final whistle.
The match also came amid continued interest in Lionel Messi’s fitness. The Argentina captain is recovering from a hamstring injury, but the team remain hopeful of having him ready for the World Cup.
The victory gives Argentina another confidence boost as they continue their build-up to the tournament, where they will aim to defend the title they won in Qatar four years ago.
