An application has been filed with a Dhaka court seeking to record a case against former chief adviser Mohammad Yunus, former law adviser Asif Nazrul and 14 others over a plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara that killed students.
Usaimong Marma, father of deceased student Chaiang Marma, submitted the plea to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam on Thursday.
However, the court recorded the petitioner’s statement and kept its order pending. Petitioner’s lawyer AKM Sharif Uddin confirmed the matter.
Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan of Bangladesh Air Force; Air Commanding Officer Morshed Mohammad Khayer Ul Afsar; Officer Commanding Maintenance Group Captain Rifat Akter Ziku; Milestone School and College Governing Body Adviser Nurun Nabi (Retd Colonel); Principal Mohammad Ziaul Alam; Principal (Administration) Md Masud Alam; School Principal Rifat Nabi; RAJUK Chairman; RAJUK Field Supervisor (Uttara); Education Secretary Siddiq Zubair; Defence Secretary; former interim government adviser for Environment and Disaster Management Rezwana Hasan; and former interim government Defence Ministry Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam are made accused in the petition.
According to the application, the accused failed to discharge state‑assigned duties properly and allowed a mechanically defective F‑7 fighter jet to conduct training flights over densely populated Dhaka without safety considerations, leading to the fatal crash.
It further accuses them of negligence after the accident, failure to implement promised compensation, and creating public confusion.
It also cites unsafe school buildings and permission to operate education activities in unsuitable structures as causes of mass casualties. No effective measures were taken to identify or prosecute those responsible, nor to compensate or rehabilitate victims, it alleges.
Besides, negligence in medical care, rescue, and instructions left many children permanently disabled, it mentioned.
On 21 July 2025, not only Usaimong Marma lost his son in the aircraft crash but also Ashraful Islam, Md Rezaul Karim and Muhammad Abdul Samad lost their children. The application describes irreparable losses to families, with nearly 200 people injured, many permanently disabled.
It argues the accused are personally and jointly responsible for the crash due to negligence. Though a public pledge was made to pay up to Tk5 crore to families of the deceased and compensation to the injured, no payments have been made yet.
The Milestone tragedy in Uttara’s Diabari involved a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet. Thirty‑six people were killed, including 28 students. Pilot Flight Lieutenant Md Taufiq Islam also died.
