Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) will be the most deployed force in the upcoming national election.
He made the remarks on Tuesday morning while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the transport service of the Ansar Welfare Trust at the headquarters of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP in Khilgaon, Dhaka.
The adviser said Ansar members will play a vital role in the election. A total of 13 Ansar personnel will be stationed at each polling centre, including three armed and ten unarmed members.
Of the ten unarmed members, six will be men and four women. For the first time, an armed Ansar member will also be assigned to the presiding officer. The deployment of Ansar personnel will continue for nine days during the election, and they are expected to play a key role in ensuring a smooth voting process.
The Adviser highlighted the Ansar-VDP’s long-standing contributions to national security, law and order, and development. He said the members serve the nation with dedication, responsibility, and patriotism, often putting aside personal safety and interests.
“Ensuring the welfare and professional development of every member of the force is both a moral duty and a state responsibility,” he added.
As part of this initiative, the Ansar Welfare Trust has purchased 31 vehicles with its own funds, including nine troop carriers, 14 covered vans, four large buses with 42 seats, two minibuses with 24 seats, and two ambulances.
The Adviser said the transport service has been launched to reduce the commuting difficulties of the country’s largest force during leaves, recreational trips, and other needs.
He expressed hope that the service would operate professionally and provide reliable and safe transportation for all members holding valid identity cards.
The event was attended by Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, director general of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, along with senior officials of the force.
