Police have arrested another accused named Sagar, the latest suspect in the brutal murder of Lal Chand alias Sohag, who was killed on July 9 near Mitford Medical College and Hospital in the capital.
Sagar, 36, was arrested during a raid in Keraniganj, Dhaka, around 4:45am on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DMP), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrest, stating that acting on tip-off Kotwali Police conducted the operation in Keraniganj area.
Sagar’s detention brings the total number of arrests in the case to 12.
On July 9 at around 6pm, Sohag was attacked by a group of assailants on a road in front of Gate No. 3 of Mitford Medical College and Hospital.
The attackers brutally beat and hacked him to death. Upon receiving the report of the incident, Kotwali Police arrived at the scene, secured the area, and sent the victim’s body for autopsy.
Following the murder, Sohag’s elder sister filed a murder case with the police station as the complainant in this incident.
So far, 11 individuals have been arrested, with nine of them have confessed to their involvement in the incident and given confessional statements in the court.
Authorities, including the police and RAB, are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects. Legal actions are being taken against the arrested individuals as investigations proceed.
