Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir will turn out for Sylhet Titans in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and local seamer Ebadot Hossain believes the left-armer’s experience will be a major boost for the side.
Sylhet signed Amir directly before the players’ draft, using the provision that allowed each franchise to recruit two overseas cricketers outside the auction. The former Pakistan international has already joined the team’s training camp ahead of the tournament.
Speaking after a practice session, Ebadot said Amir brings far more than just his on-field skills. “Amir has a lot to give to this team,” he said. “He has huge experience and nearly 400 wickets in T20 cricket. If he can use that experience for us, it will be a big asset. We are expecting him to give his best in the BPL.”
Amir has played 348 recognised T20 matches, taking 409 wickets at an economy rate of 7.33. He has also claimed 71 wickets in 62 T20 internationals for Pakistan. Ebadot feels that experience, especially in pressure situations, will strengthen Sylhet’s bowling unit.
The Bangladesh pacer is also pleased with the overall balance of the squad. Alongside Amir, Sylhet have Khaleed Ahmed, Shahidul Islam and Rezaur Rahman Raja in their pace attack. “Local and foreign players together make a very good combination,” Ebadot said. “We have a nice mix of senior and junior players. Batting and bowling are almost equal, maybe 50–50, although I feel the bowling is slightly ahead.”
Ebadot added that every bowler in the squad is capable of performing on the big stage. “Everyone here is a performer. If we all deliver on the field, then, by the grace of Allah, we can become champions.”
Sylhet Titans are heading into the new BPL season with clear ambitions of lifting the trophy. Ebadot revealed that the team’s theme this year is ‘Ebar kintu hoijibo’ (this time it will happen), a slogan he feels has created a strong positive mindset within the camp.
“Hearing this, you start to believe that this could be our year,” he said. “We are moving forward with this belief, and if Allah helps us, hopefully we can win the title.”
