Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has rejected allegations of corruption raised by board director and CCDM Committee chairman Adnan Rahman Dipon, insisting the remarks are based on personal opinion and not supported by any completed audit.
Dipon sparked controversy during an interview with a private television channel, alleging that more corruption had taken place within the BCB in the past six months than in the previous 15 years combined.
Following the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024, Faruque Ahmed took charge of the BCB. However, amid mounting criticism, he was removed from the board within nine months. Aminul Islam Bulbul subsequently assumed the presidency and was later re-elected through the board’s election process.
Pointing at the current leadership, Dipon said: “As a board director, I can say with 100 per cent certainty that corruption equivalent to Papon’s 15 years has taken place in the last six months. It was beyond what many people could imagine. You would not believe the scale unless you were inside the board.”
Bulbul firmly dismissed the accusation. Speaking to the media, he said Dipon’s comments reflected individual views and stressed that no audit linked to such claims had yet been carried out.
“This is entirely his personal opinion,” Bulbul said. “I am making it clear that this is his view, and no such audit or investigation of that nature has been conducted so far.”
Bulbul acknowledged that several major incidents had occurred within the BCB over the past 15 years, citing examples such as a domestic league match in which 90 runs were conceded in a single over. He also referred to recent questions surrounding the alleged theft of soil intended for pitch preparation at the proposed Purbachal Stadium near Dhaka, adding that investigations into those issues are ongoing.
“For the last 15 years, the board operated within a certain system, where incidents like conceding 90 runs in one over happened,” Bulbul said. “There are also cases where soil was purchased for pitches but later could not be traced. Audits into these matters are now underway, but I do not accept that particular allegation. That remains his personal opinion.”
