Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque has expressed hope that the uncertainty over India’s planned tour of Bangladesh will be resolved soon.
India are scheduled to visit Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is in September. However, doubts over the series have grown in recent days, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board still waiting for confirmation from India.
Aminul said the government is working through diplomatic channels to help ensure the series takes place in Dhaka.
“We are working on this issue, starting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our foreign minister and state minister are already working with the Indian High Commission and India’s Ministry of External Affairs,” Aminul said.
“Give us a little time. The work is ongoing. Inshallah, I hope the series between Bangladesh and India can take place in Dhaka very soon. I hope we will be able to resolve this problem quickly.”
His comments come after a BCB official admitted that the board had become doubtful about the series.
The six match series is scheduled to begin on September 1. The ODIs are set for September 1, 3 and 6, while the T20Is are scheduled for September 9, 12 and 13.
The tour was originally planned for August 2025 before being moved to September 2026.
BCB president Tamim Iqbal has been working to make sure the series goes ahead. But the board is yet to receive a positive response from India.
A BCB official earlier said recent developments had made him doubtful about the tour.
“I am doubtful about the series now after all the recent development. I don’t think we will get any response from the other side (as far as the series is concerned) and truth be told, it was supposed to happen by August 28, how many days do we have left?” the official said.
Despite the growing uncertainty, Aminul’s comments suggest the Bangladesh government has not given up hope.
Talks are continuing with Indian officials, and the government remains hopeful of finding a solution that will allow the six match series to go ahead as scheduled.
