With Awarapan 2 gearing up for its theatrical release on 14 August, composer Amaal Mallik has opened up about working with Arijit Singh on the upcoming Emraan Hashmi-starrer, reports India Times.
Arijit had previously announced that he was stepping away from playback singing in films. However, his involvement in Awarapan 2 has marked a return to recording for a film project.
Speaking about their collaboration, Amaal clarified that Arijit’s decision to step away from film music was a personal one. However, the singer has not stopped making music altogether.
“He is still coming in and working,” Amaal said, highlighting that Arijit continues to record and create music despite his decision to move away from regular playback singing.
Amaal also spoke about the process of getting Arijit to record for Awarapan 2. The collaboration has generated considerable interest among fans, particularly because of Arijit’s long association with Bollywood music and his previous work with Amaal.
Amaal stressed that there is an important distinction between Arijit stepping away from film music and quitting music altogether.
According to the composer, Arijit’s decision was not about abandoning his craft. Instead, the singer chose to distance himself from the film-music ecosystem while continuing to work on music on his own terms.
His return for Awarapan 2 has therefore come as a pleasant development for listeners who have followed his career closely.
Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead and serves as a sequel to the 2007 cult romantic action drama Awarapan.
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on 14 August, 2026. With its music and Emraan’s return to the franchise among the major talking points, Arijit’s involvement has added another layer of anticipation ahead of its release.
