Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s action thriller Alpha has opened to a modest start at the Indian box office, according to early trade estimates.
According to India.com, the film released on Friday as part of the expanding YRF Spy Universe. It also features Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Industry expectations pointed to a stronger opening due to its franchise value and female-led action theme. However, early trends showed uneven audience turnout across theatres.
As per Sacnilk, Alpha ran across around 5,886 shows on its first day. It collected about ₹5.45 crore net in India during early estimates. The total India gross stood at around ₹6.43 crore, with final figures still updating.
Occupancy levels remained mixed through the day. Morning shows recorded around 15.82 per cent occupancy. Afternoon shows dropped to 9.92 per cent. Evening shows rose slightly to 17.85 per cent. Night shows delivered the strongest response at 19.69 per cent. Despite the late improvement, overall turnout stayed on the lower side for a major franchise release.
The opening has also drawn comparisons with Alia Bhatt’s earlier film Jigra. That film collected ₹4.55 crore net on its first day. It also earned ₹2 crore overseas, taking its worldwide opening to ₹7.46 crore. Alpha has slightly crossed Jigra’s domestic opening, but the margin remains narrow as final figures continue to change.
Before release, trade experts had predicted an opening between ₹6 crore and ₹10 crore net, depending on audience response. Some optimistic estimates expected stronger franchise-driven numbers. However, slower advance bookings and mixed early reactions have pushed revised estimates closer to ₹4.5 crore to ₹6 crore net.
Alpha marks the first female-led spy film in the YRF Spy Universe, directed by Shiv Rawail. The film focuses on high-stakes espionage missions led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.
Despite strong expectations before release, the opening day performance points to a cautious start for the project.
