A Dhaka court on Tuesday, placed 22 more suspects on a three-day remand in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Vatara Police Station over an alleged conspiracy to commit sabotage on 15 August.
With this order, all 52 suspects arrested in the case have now been placed on remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman granted the order after a hearing was held in the presence of the suspects.
The remanded suspects are Md Tarek, Tarek, Shahin, Foysal, Mamun Miah, Munna, Tamjid Miah Noyon, Md Yasin, Jamil, Rakibul Hasan Ratul, Foysal, Siam, Shorif, Sadikur Rahman Payel, Shahin Alam, Abdul Ali Babu, Anik, Tarikul Islam, A Rahman, Md Yamin Miah, Atik, and Ashik.
During the proceedings, defence lawyer Islam Miah Rakib submitted a petition seeking the cancellation of the remand plea and applied for bail. However, the court granted the three-day remand after concluding the hearing.
Earlier, in the first phase on Wednesday, the court granted a three-day remand for 15 suspects, including Jubo League leader Mehejabin Akter Mala. This was followed by a one-day remand granted for another 15 suspects on 23 August.
According to case records, police conducted a raid on the night of 13 August at a building on Road 28, Block M, in Bashundhara Residential Area under Vatara Police Station. Sensing the presence of law enforcement, several individuals managed to flee, but 52 suspects were detained from the flat.
During the operation, police seized two iPhones, one Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra mobile phone, and three banners. A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was subsequently lodged by police at Vatara Police Station.
On 14 August, the court ordered the 52 suspects to be sent to prison, while two children in conflict with the law were sent to a juvenile development centre.
Following this, on 15 August, the investigating officer of the case, Vatara Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Hafizur Rahman, submitted an application seeking a seven-day remand for the 52 suspects.
The police said in the case details that the detained individuals are affiliated with the Awami League, Jubo League, Jubo Mohila League, and the banned Chhatra League.
According to police claims, the suspects had gathered at the flat to prepare for “National Mourning Day” on 15 August and to organise a successful flash procession. The police also accused them of planning sabotage and terrorist activities and carrying placards and banners to chant various anti-state slogans.
