Alauddin Ali remains one of the most influential names in Bangla modern, patriotic and film music.
His compositions enriched Bangladesh’s film music industry, while many of his timeless songs continue to resonate with listeners across generations.
Alauddin Ali passed away on 9 August 2020.
Even after his death, his musical legacy continues to live on.
While he was best known as a music director and composer, he also made significant contributions as a lyricist and singer.
In recognition of his contribution to music, Alauddin Ali received the National Film Award seven times as a music director and once as a lyricist.
However, the love and admiration of audiences across generations remained one of the greatest achievements of his long musical career.
Born on 24 December 1952 in Bashbari village of Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj, Alauddin Ali was the son of Ustad Javed Ali and Johra Khatun.
He received his early musical training from his father and his uncle Sadek Ali.
Alauddin Ali began his career in the film industry as a musician in 1968.
At the time, he worked as an associate of legendary composer and musician Altaf Mahmud.
He later worked with several prominent composers of the era, including Anwar Parvez.
He rose to prominence as a music director in 1975 and went on to establish a distinctive place in the country’s music industry.
His extensive body of work includes timeless songs such as ‘Prothom Bangladesh Amar Shesh Bangladesh’, ‘Je Chhilo Drishtir Simanay’, ‘Bhalobasha Joto Boro Jibon Toto Boro Noy’, ‘Hoy Jodi Bodnam Hok Aro’, ‘Achhen Amar Moktar Achhen Amar Barrister’, ‘Bondhu Tin Din Tor Barit Gelam Dekha Pailam Na’, ‘Dukkho Bhalobeshe Premer Khela Khelte Hoy’, ‘Suryodoye Tumi Suryasteo Tumi’, ‘Amay Genthe Dao Na Mago Ekta Palash Phuler Mala’, ‘Emono To Prem Hoy’, ‘Jetuku Shomoy Tumi Thako Kachhe’ and ‘Shobai Bole Boyosh Bare Ami Boli Komere’.
With emotional lyrics, memorable melodies and distinctive arrangements, Alauddin Ali’s music continues to hold a special place in Bangla music.
