Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said the fascist Awami League regime pursued anti-Islamic, anti-cleric, and anti-Muslim politics.
He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the “Azmate Sahaba” grand conference at the Central Eidgah ground in Narayanganj.
Salahuddin said the fascist Awami League government carried out politics against Islam, against Islamic scholars, and against Muslims. “We have witnessed how they have been ousted,” he said.
He added that to build a new Bangladesh, it is necessary to eliminate Awami fascism and unethical political culture. “We must practice ideal politics and promote a better political culture to end unethical politics in the country,” he said.
Referring to the political use of religion, he said that in Bangladesh, particularly before elections, there have always been attempts to exploit Islam and various religious orders for political gain, and such practices have recently intensified.
He alleged that a certain political party is trying to use Islam in politics and elections to divide the nation and harm the religion.
Salahuddin said around 90% to 92% of Bangladesh’s population are Muslims who follow the teachings of Madinah. “We believe in the Islam practiced in Madinah, the Islam preached by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),” he said.
“We are not followers of Maududi ideology,” he added. “So we must remain alert to those who create discord and confusion among the Muslims of this country.”
