A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Nazrul Islam, general secretary of Satkhira District unit of Awami League, to jail in connection with a case filed over the murder of Ramiz Uddin Roop, a student of Daffodil International University, during the July movement.
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunaid passed the order on Tuesday and scheduled hearing for a seven-day remand application for Wednesday.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Nazrul Islam on Monday from Bashundhara Residential Area.
On the same day, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Mohammad Saiful Islam of Tejgaon Zonal Team, filed an application seeking a seven-day remand for the accused.
However, as the investigating officer did not appear in court on Tuesday, the magistrate ordered the accused to be sent to jail and fixed Wednesday for remand hearing.
According to case details, Ramiz Uddin Roop, a student of Computer Science department at Daffodil International University, joined anti-discrimination student movement with his friends on 4 August 2024.
On that day, near Karwan Bazar metro rail station, Roop was struck in the right eye by bullets fired by the accused.
Presuming him dead, he was left lying in a bloody state on road. His friends and fellow protesters eventually rushed him to Padma Hospital in Kathalbagan for emergency treatment.
As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced care, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, the victim’s father, AKM Rakibul Ahmed, filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station. The case names 223 individuals as accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
