The Ajker Patrika family has expressed profound shock and grief following the tragic passing of its Kushtia correspondent, Debashish Dutta, and three members of his family in a devastating hotel fire in Kolkata, India, on Tuesday night.
The 39-year-old journalist lost his life alongside his wife, Afsana Sharmin, 27, their three-year-old son, Swornoshish Dutta, and his father-in-law, Md Akram Ali, 64. Preliminary reports indicate that five of the nine individuals who perished in the incident have been identified as Bangladeshi nationals.
In a statement, the Ajker Patrika family said this untimely loss has caused deep pain across the entire organisation. Kamrul Hasan, the Acting Editor of Ajker Patrika, stated that the newspaper stands in solidarity with the family during this moment of irreparable loss.
He offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed his hope that the bereaved relatives would find the strength and patience to endure this difficult time.
