The resignations of two student representatives in the interim government’s council of advisers, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiya and Mahfuj Alam, will officially take effect once the Election Commission announces the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday.
Shafiqul Alam said the two advisers submitted their resignation letters to the Chief Adviser at his official residence in Jamuna at 5pm. The Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus accepted the resignations and extended his best wishes for their future endeavors.
“The resignations will become effective immediately upon the announcement of the election schedule. If the schedule is announced tomorrow (Thursday) morning, they will be effective from then,” Shafiqul Alam said.
The two student leaders had been at the forefront of the July mass uprising. Speaking on their contributions, Chief Adviser Yunus said, “The nation will remember how you led the movement and helped free the country from fascist rule. I believe you will continue to play an active role in strengthening democracy. The caretaker government will always remember your contributions. I wish you a bright and successful future.”
He added, “What you have given to the nation in such a short time is unforgettable. This is just a transformation, and I hope you will make even greater contributions on a broader scale in the future.”
Advising them to continue serving the nation, Muhammad Yunus said, “The experience you gained while serving in government will certainly benefit you in your future endeavors.”
When asked whether the election would be held on time, Shafiqul Alam assured, “The election will take place in the first half of February. While some commentators, including senior journalists, have spread misinformation on YouTube and TV, we have always stated clearly that the election will be held in early February, and the Chief Adviser has instructed everyone to make the necessary preparations.”
