Bangladesh Under-17 secured a comfortable win over Sri Lanka Under-17 in Chattogram, thanks to a superb unbeaten century from Adrityo Ghosh. While Mohammad Naim, Akash Roy and Saurav Karmakar all made decent starts without converting them into bigger scores, their small contributions helped. The real foundation of Bangladesh’s total of 271 came from Adrityo, who struck an unbeaten 103 off 137 balls with eight fours and two sixes. The bowlers then completed the job, restricting Sri Lanka to 193 for seven despite a fighting 78 from Jason Fernando. The hosts claimed victory by 78 runs to take the lead in the series.
Chasing 272 at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka lost Arosha Sithumina in the second over before Rehan Peiris was dismissed in the following one. The Sri Lankan captain managed only four runs from four balls. Chanul Kodithuwakku also fell before the end of the powerplay for six off 16 deliveries. Hirun Mathisha, despite a promising start, departed for 28 off 40 balls.
At 46 for four, Sri Lanka were in deep trouble. Stevon Peiris and Fernando attempted a recovery, but their stand did not last long. Stevon was dismissed for 14 off 32 balls. Later, Sanul Wickramarathne contributed 34 off 65 deliveries. Fernando fought hard with a 78 off 116 balls, but Sri Lanka never came close to the target, finishing on 193. Bangladesh shared the wickets around, with Akash, Mahenuzzaman, Faiyaz, Zarif, Iftikhar, Rakibul and Akash Roy taking one each.
Earlier, Bangladesh struggled at the start after losing Zarif in the second over. Naim and Adrityo rebuilt with a 48-run partnership before Naim departed for 32 off 42 balls. Adrityo then added 91 with Akash Roy for the third wicket, keeping the innings steady. Adrityo reached his half-century off 80 balls, while Akash missed out on his own fifty, dismissed for 39 off 62.
Captain Rakibul managed only 12 from 10 balls, but late contributions from Junaid Hossain (18) and Saurav (32 off 20) lifted the total. Adrityo remained unbeaten on 103, reaching his century off 134 balls, guiding Bangladesh to a competitive 271. Himaru Dishan claimed two wickets for Sri Lanka.
