A freedom fighter and his wife were killed inside their Rangpur, Taraganj home on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Jogesh Chandra Roy, 75 and his wife Surbana Roy 60, Taraganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Abu Sayum confirmed.
“After receiving information from locals, we recovered bodies of Jogesh Chandra Roy in the dining room and Surbana Roy in the kitchen,” he said.
Neighbour of the victims Dipak Chandra Roy said, “My family has been looking after Jogesh Chandra Roy’s house for 40–50 years. I go there every morning for work. On Sunday, I became suspicious as no one came out of the house until 7:00am,’ he told TIMES.
“I called out but heard no sound, so I informed neighbours. Later, climbing a ladder to enter, I found no one in the rooms. After opening the dining room door, I found the bodies,” Dipak added.
Commander of the Taraganj Upazila Muktijoddha Command Unit, Ali Hossain, who also visited the scene, said, “The killers must be identified and brought to justice within 24 hours; otherwise, a strong movement will be launched.”
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Monabbar Hossen have paid a visit to the scene.
The UNO said, “Steps have already been taken to bring whoever is involved in this incident to the books.”
Family sources said that Jogesh Chandra Roy was a teacher by profession and retired as headmaster of a government primary school in 2017.
The couple was survived by two sons.
