A fraud complaint alleging a €35,000 loss has been filed against Bangladeshi rock icon Mahfuz Anam James’ band Nagar Baul in Rome, but the band’s manager Rubaiyat Thakur Robin has said they will deal with the matter through legal channels.
Speaking to media from Venice on Friday night, Robin said anyone could file a complaint, but that did not mean the allegations had been proven.
“Anyone can file a complaint against anyone. That does not mean the allegations have been proven. Since the matter is now part of a legal process, we will deal with it through the law,” he said.
Bangladeshi concert organiser Abul Moazz filed the written complaint at a Carabinieri police station in Rome’s Acilia area on 21 August.
According to the complaint, €35,000 was paid to James and his team for concerts scheduled in Rome and Venice.
The document states that the payment was linked to an agreement or contract made with Nagar Baul manager Rubaiyat Thakur Robin.
However, the complaint does not allege that James personally received the money or committed fraud himself.
Robin said that filing a police complaint did not mean the allegations had been established or that a court had issued any verdict.
“This is a complaint filed with the police. The fact that it has been accepted does not mean the allegations have been proven or that a court has delivered a verdict,” he said.
He added that the band would accept any appropriate legal action if it were found to have breached its agreement.
“If we have breached the contract, they can take any action against us. We will deal with it accordingly,” Robin said.
For now, however, the manager said the band was focused on its upcoming performance in Venice.
“We are busy with the Venice concert on the 23rd. We are not thinking about anything else at the moment,” he said.
Nagar Baul is scheduled to perform in Venice on 23 August.
