Popular actor Abdullah Al Sentu has alleged that valuables worth more than Tk51 lakh were looted from his rented residence in Dhaka’s Purba Rampura area, an allegation that has been strongly denied by the accused, who claim the case is politically motivated.
The alleged incident took place on the evening of 25 January at a rented house adjacent to WASA Road in Rampura. Sentu filed a complaint with Rampura Police Station against Abdul Haque Talukdar Liton, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP) at Rampura thana, and Enayet Ullah. However, the accused have rejected the allegations, calling them false and conspiratorial.
According to Sentu, he returned home late on the night of 30 January to find several items missing, including a 2-terabyte hard drive, a mobile phone, ceiling fans, and other valuables. He claimed that the stolen hard drive contained the final footage of a web series produced at a cost of Tk50 lakh. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at Tk51 lakh.
Sentu also shared critical information regarding the ownership of the house. He told TIMES that he had rented the residence from a man named Enayet Ullah. However, while filing the complaint on 1 February, he learned that neither Enayet nor Liton was the actual owner of the property. The house, he said, is owned by Delwar Hossain, a fact that had allegedly been concealed from him.
“After the incident, when I contacted Enayet and Liton, they denied ever renting the house to me,” Sentu said. “But I paid rent to them regularly, and I have proof of those transactions on my bKash account.”
When contacted by TIMES, the accused described the case as entirely fabricated and aimed at tarnishing the image of NCP.
“This case is completely false. I am being framed through a conspiracy,” said Abdul Haque Talukdar Liton. “Delwar, with the help of Sentu, is trying to trap me. Along with local BNP leader Nazrul, Delwar is attempting to damage NCP’s reputation.”
Local residents and the building’s caretaker claimed that on the day of the incident, a woman named Nupur Akter arrived at the house with 15 to 20 people and carried out the looting.
When contacted, Nupur admitted to visiting the house on the day in question but denied any involvement in looting. “I went to Delwar’s house because he owes me Tk11.72 lakh,” she said. “I did not loot anything. Delwar is trying to frame me. The CCTV footage from that day will prove whether I was involved or not.”
Delwar, who claimed to be the rightful owner of the house, alleged that NCP leader Liton and Enayet Ullah had forcibly occupied his property. “I rented the house to Enayet Ullah on a non-judicial stamp. Without informing me, he sublet the house to Sentu, which is illegal. They have taken control of my property.”
Delwar further alleged that Liton, Liton’s wife Khadija, Nupur Akter, and a lawyer, Asaduzzaman Khan, extorted money by intimidation. “This group uses fear and mobs to collect money. That is their business,” he claimed. “They used influence during the previous government and are now using NCP’s influence. They have previously held a gun to my head and detained my caretaker. I want a proper investigation and justice.”
Sentu has demanded swift arrest of those responsible and the recovery of his stolen property. Mohammad Harun-Ur-Rashid, deputy commissioner of Motijheel Division of DMP, said, “No case has been filed in this incident yet. However, we are investigating the reasons. We have advised the affected person to submit a formal complaint.”
