In a joint operation on Thursday night, Ashulia police arrested seven individuals, including the son of renowned actor A.R. Montu, in possession of a large quantity of drugs, foreign pistols, and locally-made weapons. The arrested individuals were caught in separate raids at Gazirchott and Kandail’s Raja-Badsha Market areas.
According to sub-inspector Ataur Rahman of Ashulia Police Station, the operation was conducted following the sudden sound of gunfire in the Gazirchott area, which was reported to the Jamgora Army Camp. A swift response from the Army patrol team led to the apprehension of the suspects.
The arrested suspects include Mehedi Hasan Mithun (24), the son of actor A.R. Montu, Mohammad Mozammel Hossain (44), Masuma Akter Ria (23), Mohammad Zahidul Alam (24), Nayen Ali (18), Mohammad Golam Rabbi (18), and Babar Hossain (aka Bablu).
During the raid, law enforcement recovered several dangerous items, including a 7.65mm foreign pistol, 8 rounds of pistol ammunition, 17 shotgun cartridges, 16 pistol cartridges, a shotgun buttstock, two electric shockers, three walkie-talkies, and numerous local weapons. Additionally, a large quantity of drugs was confiscated: 3,040 yaba tablets, 700 grams of cannabis, 4 liters of foreign liquor, and 13 mobile phones.
In the follow-up raid at Raja-Badsha Market in Kandail, three more suspects—Nayen Ali, Babar Hossain, and Golam Rabbi—were apprehended. Their possession included another pistol, a locally-made weapon, 200 grams of cannabis, and two mobile phones connected to criminal activities.
All arrested suspects and the confiscated items have been handed over to Ashulia Police for further investigation. Sub-Inspector Ataur Rahman confirmed that a case has been filed against them, and the authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
This operation highlights the growing concern over illicit activities in the region, as law enforcement intensifies their efforts to tackle drug trafficking and illegal arms distribution in Ashulia.
