The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against several officials of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd (KGDCL) and a local public representative. The case was lodged on Wednesday at the ACC’s district office Chattogram-1.

The accused in the case are Patiya’s Jangalkhain Union acting chairman Gazi Md Bakhtiar Uddin (alias Bokul Member), KGDCL Deputy General Manager Md Tajuddin Dhali, Assistant Manager Md Kamrul Islam, Manager of Zone-11 branch Muhammad Rifat Naushad Bhuiyan, former general manager Md Ali Chowdhury, and former general manager Sudhir Kumar Saha Roy.

According to the ACC, an FIR was filed in the name of different individuals, excluding the actual culprits, in a report concerning the disconnection of gas supply to an illegally operated aluminum factory in the Mansartek area under Patiya. This factory operated from 2009 to 2025.

The commission alleges that by abusing their power, the accused Karnaphuli officials caused a loss of government funds and attempted to shield the real culprits from legal consequences.

The ACC investigation revealed that the accused, in collusion with each other, caused a government loss of Tk33.7 lakh by filing the FIR in the names of different individuals. A spot investigation was also conducted in the presence of the Upazila Land Office and local land officials regarding the incident.

ACC Deputy Director in Chattogram Subel Ahmed confirmed the matter, stating that if anyone else is found involved during the ongoing investigation, legal action will be taken against them as well.
