The body of Md Shaker Hossain, 38, a senior joint convener of the Magura Pourashava Jubo Dal, was recovered on Wednesday morning from the Royal Express bus counter at the Central Bus Terminal in Magura.

He was rushed to Magura 250-Bed District Hospital while the attending physicians declared him dead on arrival.

An initial assessment suggested a stroke, but further experiments revealed a narrow puncture mark at the back of his head. Bloodstains were also discovered at the spot inside the bus counter where he was found, according to hospital sources.

Relatives and locals claim he was shot to death, though police have yet to confirm whether the mark was caused by a bullet wound.

The deceased, Shaker Hossain, was the son of late Kutubuddin from the Parnanduali area in Sadar Upazila. He also worked as a counter master at the Royal Express desk in the Central Bus Terminal, according to sources.

According to local sources, two men arrived at the counter on a motorcycle early on Wednesday morning. One of them went inside while the other waited outside, continuously honking the motorcycle horn. At one point, the man inside shot Shaker before fleeing the scene.

However, this account of the incident has not yet been officially confirmed by the police investigation.

Dr Mainul Hasan from the Emergency Department of Magura 250-Bed Sadar Hospital said that it was initially suspected to be a stroke although a narrow perforation was found at the back of his head during examination.

“He had died prior to reaching the hospital. The exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy and necessary medical tests.” according to Mainul.

Being informed, police have already visited the scene. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

Earlier around 10am, Shaker’s colleagues blockaded the road next to the municipal bus terminal for nearly an hour. Monowar Hosen, member of parliament for the Magura-1 constituency, visited the site and urged everyone to remain calm, leading to the removal of the barricades. He demanded a swift investigation into Shaker’s killing to determine the true cause and bring those responsible to justice.”
