Acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s upcoming web series Annie is set to premiere on OTT platform iScreen, following a partnership agreement signed at the Channel i office on Wednesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by Abdullah Mohammad Saad, Impress Telefilm and Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar, producer Ehsanul Haque, co-producers Shihab Nurun Nabi and Tanvir Hossain, among others.
Producer Ehsanul Haque said the official release date would be announced soon.
Interest in Annie has continued to grow since its world premiere in the Women in Series section of Seriencamp Festival in Germany in June.
Speaking about the series, Ehsanul Haque said it received positive responses at the international festival and expressed confidence that local audiences would also embrace it.
“We believe audiences will appreciate Annie. Its storytelling and presentation will offer viewers a fresh and distinctive experience,” he said.
The series also marks the first collaboration between Abdullah Mohammad Saad and actress Nazifa Tushi.
Tushi said she was excited that Bangladeshi audiences would finally be able to watch the project following its international premiere.
“We primarily make films and series for audiences at home. I’m eager to see how viewers respond, and I hope they will enjoy it,” she said.
The actress revealed that Annie was filmed before her feature film Roid. Describing it as one of her favourite projects, she added that the experimental nature of the series gave her a unique acting experience.
“Perhaps it won’t appeal to everyone, but those who are familiar with Saad’s work are likely to appreciate it. I believe those who watch it will find it rewarding,” she said.
Annie is a dystopian drama centred on a young nurse named Annie, who struggles to raise her five younger siblings alone in a small town. As a mysterious disease spreads across the world, infected men become consumed by an uncontrollable hatred towards women.
Amid the so-called “hate pandemic”, Annie is brutally attacked by a masked assailant one night—an act of violence that changes her life forever.
