Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam has announced a seven-day special “crash programme” in Kamrangirchar to control dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and ensure proper waste management.
He made the announcement on Friday after Jummah prayers at a mosque adjacent to the Kamrangirchar Eidgah ground, according to a press release.
The programme will include daily mosquito control operations over the next seven days.
However, Abdus Salam said the City Corporation’s efforts alone would not be enough, urging residents to ensure that no water accumulates in their homes, yards or drains.
He said the Inner Circular Road project is being implemented to upgrade the Kamrangirchar road into an eight-lane road.
Once completed, the project will improve the area’s transport system and transform the overall outlook of Kamrangirchar.
Calling on everyone to protect the Old Buriganga Channel, he urged people to refrain from dumping waste and polythene into the river.
He also asked local residents to play an active role in preventing river encroachment.
He further called for building social resistance against drugs, extortion and land grabbing while stressing the importance of keeping roads, drains and playgrounds free from encroachment and maintaining cleanliness.
Assuring that necessary steps would be taken after discussions with the relevant authorities to resolve issues related to mosque registration, he also urged everyone to plant at least one tree to help protect the environment.
“There is no alternative to collective efforts in building a clean, green and liveable Kamrangirchar,” he said.
After the programme, Abdus Salam visited different parts of Kamrangirchar. Later, as part of the nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees, he planted saplings at the Buriganga Public Library premises and along the banks of the Buriganga River.
Local leaders, including Dhaka-7 Member of Parliament Hamidur Rahman Hamid, were present on the occasion.
