Abahani returned to winning ways in the Bangladesh Premier Football League with a commanding win in Manikganj. They beat Fakirapool 5-0 and showed control in every area of the pitch. It was their second victory of the season and one that lifted them higher in the standings.
Abahani started the match with purpose and pressed Fakirapool from the opening minutes. Their pressure paid off in the 31st minute when Suleman Diabate scored the first goal. Kazem Shah played a smart pass into the box, and the Malian forward finished with confidence. The goal settled Abahani and increased their control of the game.
About ten minutes later, Diabate struck again. He received the ball inside the box, created space with a quick movement, and sent the ball into the net. Fakirapool defenders failed to close him down, and the goalkeeper had no chance. Diabate’s brace put Abahani firmly in charge before the break.
Abahani were not done in the first half. Mirajul added the third goal with a powerful shot from outside the box. The ball went past the defence and beat the goalkeeper, sealing a dominant first-half display. Abahani went into halftime with a 3-0 lead and full control of the match.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Abahani kept possession and limited Fakirerpool’s chances. Morsalin scored the fourth goal in the 80th minute after a well-worked move. Five minutes later, Al Amin found the net to complete the rout. Fakirapool struggled to respond and failed to create any clear chances.
With this win, Abahani moved up three places in the points table. They now have eight points from six matches and sit in fourth position. Fakirerpool remain eighth with five points from six games.
Goalless draw at Kings Arena
The other league match of the day ended without goals. Bangladesh Police FC and PWD Sports Club played out a 0-0 draw. Although Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur is the home venue for both teams, the match was held at Kings Arena.
BFF League Committee deputy chairman Zakir Hossain Chowdhury explained the reason for the venue change. He said the Gazipur ground could not be used due to preparations for Victory Day programmes on 16 December. The local administration was unable to provide the venue, which forced the league committee to move the match.
The game itself lacked clear chances, and neither side managed to score. Bangladesh Police FC now have seven points from six matches, the same as Mohammedan SC and Brothers Union. PWD Sports Club earned one point and moved up from ninth to sixth place. They now have six points from six matches.
Looking ahead, the Federation Cup match between Mohammedan SC and Bashundhara Kings will be held on Tuesday. Due to Victory Day events in Cumilla, the league committee has decided to stage the match at the National Stadium. The federation has yet to decide whether fans will be allowed to attend the game.
