Mumbai Police are examining digital evidence after a viral audio message allegedly threatening Bollywood star Aamir Khan was traced to a Sweden-based IP address, though investigators believe the sender may have concealed their real location using online anonymity tools, writes ABP Live.
The investigation into an alleged threat targeting actor Aamir Khan has taken a new turn, with police sources indicating that the viral audio message was transmitted through a Sweden-based virtual private network (VPN).
Investigators are now analysing digital evidence to identify the sender, while exploring whether advanced privacy tools were deliberately used to mask the person’s actual location.
According to police sources, the audio message is being examined for its alleged links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
In the recording, a person claiming to be Arzu Bishnoi allegedly accuses Aamir Khan of promoting “love jihad”, describing it as being against Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma.
The voice note also reportedly threatens to “teach Aamir Khan a lesson”.
Authorities are continuing to analyse the message’s digital footprint as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have not yet registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the alleged threat.
However, investigators are carrying out forensic analysis to establish the sender’s identity.
Sources said the initial IP address associated with the message was traced to Sweden, but officials believe this may not represent the sender’s actual location.
According to the investigation, the audio message was allegedly sent using both a VPN and the Tor browser—technologies commonly used to conceal internet activity and make digital tracing more difficult.
Police are continuing to examine technical evidence to determine the true origin of the message.
The latest development follows another alleged threat received by Aamir Khan on 18 July through a social media post purportedly shared by individuals identifying themselves as Arzu Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi, who claimed links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The post accused the actor of promoting “love jihad”, reportedly in reference to his recent marriage, and warned that he would face consequences.
Investigators first became aware of the alleged threat after the Facebook post and an accompanying voice note began circulating online.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the claims and continue to investigate the matter.
The reported threats surfaced shortly after Aamir Khan married longtime partner Gauri Spratt.
The couple held a private registered wedding ceremony at the actor’s Mumbai residence on 5 July. The marriage marks the 61-year-old actor’s third marriage.
