A total of 651 new dengue patients have been hospitalised across the country, while no deaths from the mosquito-borne disease were reported during the period.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Saturday by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the report, between 8 am Friday and 8 am Saturday, 129 new patients were admitted in Barishal, 98 in Chattogram, 120 in Dhaka (outside the city), 120 in Dhaka North City, 117 in Dhaka South City, 13 in Khulna (outside the city), 29 in Mymensingh (outside the city), 22 in Rajshahi(outside the city), and three in Sylhet (outside the city).
With the latest figures, the total number of hospitalised dengue patients this year has reached 70,513. Although no new deaths were reported, the total number of fatalities from dengue so far this year stands at 278, including 148 men and 130 women.
In October alone, 80 people died from dengue, while 76 deaths were reported in September, 39 in August, 41 in July, 19 in June, three in May, seven in April, three in February, and 10 in January. No deaths were recorded in March.
Meanwhile, the number of hospitalisations due to dengue this year was 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, 10,496 in August, 15,866 in September, and 22,520 in October.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 people were infected with dengue, and 575 deaths were reported between January 1 and December 31.
In 2023, dengue claimed 1,705 lives and hospitalised 321,179 people across the country.
According to the DGHS, hospital admission and death records from dengue cases have been maintained since 2000. The year 2023 saw the highest figures on record, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths.
