A Bangladeshi-origin Finnish citizen, Dr Mojibur Doftori, has been elected as a member of the Finnish Green Party’s Parliamentary Election Program Working Group.

The nine-member committee will be led by the party’s Secretary General, Anna Moring.

The committee will work closely with the National Executive Committee, Party Council, and Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Green Party to develop key objectives and the election manifesto for the 2027 Parliamentary Election.

Dr Doftori previously served as a member of the Party Council, the highest policy-making body of the Green Party.

He has also been part of the Immigration Policy Working Group and the Equality and Non-Discrimination Working Group.

In addition, he served as vice-chair of the Green Party’s Helsinki Committee, representing the Finnish capital, and as a member of the Helsinki City Council’s Equality and Non-Discrimination Commission.

A graduate of Dhaka University in Public Administration and a PhD holder from the University of Helsinki in Social and Public Policy, Dr Doftori is an expert in international education, career development, and human rights.

He authored the book Massive Career Success — How to Create the Life of Your Dreams — published by Oxford-based Powerhouse Publications in 2019.

In his professional career, Dr Doftori worked as a researcher at Tampere University of Finland and Roskilde University of Denmark and also taught South Asian Studies at the University of Helsinki.

He previously worked with PEN International, the London-based organisation advocating for freedom of expression for writers and journalists worldwide.

He has served as a trustee of PEN Finland, chaired its Writers at Risk and Writers for Peace Committee, and represented the organisation in PEN International conferences in Norway, Ukraine, and India.

Dr Doftori has also been involved with the European Movement International (EMI) through its “Europe in the World” Working Group in Brussels.

Currently a trustee of the Humanist Association of Finland, Dr Doftori is a former talk show host at British Bangla News TV in London and serves as an advisor to the Euro Bangla Press Club (France) and the Bangladesh Mofossol Sangbadik Forum, a nationwide rural journalists’ association.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr Doftori said, “I am thankful to Finland’s Green Party for electing me to its important national committee. I will try my best to put forward the concerns of various weak groups of Finnish society, including immigrants, in the party’s election manifesto. I believe, by joining hands together, we can make Finland a fairer society for all.”
