In Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, a wife has been accused of murdering her husband just eight days after their wedding, UNP reports.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday (May 16) in the Masjid Para area of the upazila’s municipal zone. The deceased, Hasan Mia (28), was from Cumilla district. He was living in a rented house in Akhaura’s Masjid Para with his newlywed wife, Jannat Akhtar (23), who is from Shantinagar, in the same upazila.

After the incident, police arrested the accused, Jannat Akhtar. During initial interrogation, she confessed to the murder.

On Saturday (May 17) morning, police recovered the body and sent it to the district hospital morgue for an autopsy. However, as of the writing of this report at around noon on Saturday, no case had been filed at the police station.

Akhaura Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamim Uddin said, “Hasan and Jannat got married on May 9. However, Jannat had a romantic relationship with another man before this.”

The OC added, “After marriage, Hasan repeatedly tried to be intimate with her, but Jannat objected. On the night of the incident, she again protested when Hasan tried to approach her. When he insisted, Jannat tricked him into taking sleeping pills and then suffocated him with a pillow.”
