A London-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Sylhet was cancelled on Wednesday morning after the aircraft became unfit for take-off when a boarding bridge struck it moments before departure, causing severe inconvenience to passengers.
The incident occurred at Osmani International Airport shortly before 10:25 am, the scheduled departure time of flight BG-201 to London.
Airport Director Hafiz Ahmed said the aircraft was damaged while the boarding bridge was being retracted for take-off preparations. “The plane was rendered unfit for flight after the bridge hit it, and the schedule had to be postponed,” he said.
According to airport authorities, the flight was carrying 262 passengers bound for London. All passengers were safely deboarded, and arrangements for an alternative flight were made after nearly four hours of delay.
Hafiz Ahmed said the incident was a ground mishap. “Another aircraft from Dhaka landed at Osmani Airport around 1:45pm and is scheduled to depart for London with the passengers at 2:30pm,” he added.
