A violent clash between students of Daffodil International University(DIU) and City University turned the Ashulia’s Khagan area in Savar into a battleground late Sunday night.
According to eyewitnesses, tensions flared over a trivial matter when a City University student allegedly spat from a motorcycle, and the spit accidentally hit a Daffodil student near Bachelor Paradise hostel.
The altercation escalated around 9pm as 40–50 City University students armed with stones and locally made weapons stormed a hostel of Daffodil students, vandalising several rooms.
As footage of the incident spread across social media, Daffodil students gathered in large numbers and advanced toward City University, triggering hours of fierce clashes from midnight until around 4:30am.
Amid panic, with fires burning and explosions being heard, Daffodil’s proctorial team tried but failed to control the situation.
The attackers eventually entered City University premises, where they vandalised the administrative building and other structures, looting computers and important equipment. At least three buses and a private car were torched while five other vehicles were vandalised.
Multiple crude bombs were reportedly exploded, intensifying the chaos.
More than 50 students from both institutions are believed to have been injured in the clashes.
Students alleged that despite the violence continuing for nearly four hours, law enforcement agencies did not intervene promptly to control the situation.
A tense atmosphere still prevails in the area.
