Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party is committed to building a nation where all ethnic communities will have equal rights, recognition, and opportunities.
He made the remark while speaking at the Wangala festival in Dhaka on Friday.
Fakhrul said the BNP clearly stated in the party’s 31-point declaration in 2022 that all communities, irrespective of background, would be able to contribute equally to the nation’s progress.
He added that over the past several months, he had been in touch with various ethnic minority communities, speaking with them and learning about their problems.
Fakhrul stated that he was deeply moved by their cultural traditions and simplicity.
He emphasised that BNP had always stood by ethnic minority groups since the time of late president Ziaur Rahman, who, he said, recognised all communities living in Bangladesh.
“Our responsibility is to integrate all communities into the broader national stream while ensuring the preservation of their culture and improving their economic conditions,” the BNP leader pointed out.
