Bangladesh are set to take on Hong Kong in a crucial AFC Asian Cup Qualifier on Tuesday at Kai Tak Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 PM Bangladesh time. But ahead of the fixture, the national team has faced significant off-field challenges, including poor training facilities and logistical issues caused by what the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has described as “uncooperative behaviour” from the hosts.
Under AFC regulations, host nations must provide visiting teams with suitable training facilities and logistical support at least 48 hours before the match. However, Bangladesh’s players were denied access to a proper training ground, a situation that added unnecessary frustration before such an important fixture. Despite these obstacles, the players are determined to turn their anger into motivation on the field.
BFF President Tabith Awal, speaking to reporters after inaugurating two new turf pitches at Kamalapur and the BFF house in Dhaka earlier today, expressed confidence that Bangladesh would respond to Hong Kong’s behaviour where it matters most and that is on the pitch. “We will not comment on their actions,” said Tabith. “The only answer we should give is by winning the match. Let’s respond through performance, not complaints.”
When asked if Bangladesh would file an official complaint with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the BFF chief remained diplomatic but firm. “We are aware of the host nation’s attitude,” he said. “However, instead of focusing on off-field issues, our players will focus on proving themselves on the pitch. The best reply will be victory.”
Tabith also revealed that the team management had already anticipated such difficulties before leaving Dhaka. “Our manager had warned that we might face this kind of behaviour in Hong Kong, just like we did in Shillong, India,” he added. “But our boys are mentally strong. We have prepared for these situations. The answer to such tactics is simple win the match.”
The match holds significant importance for Bangladesh, who suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to the same opponents in Dhaka last week. Tonight’s fixture provides not only a chance for redemption but also an opportunity to restore morale and strengthen their qualification hopes.
Despite the travel fatigue and lack of proper preparation facilities, the squad’s mood remains positive. Senior players like Hamza Choudhury, Jamal Bhuyan, and Topu Barman are expected to play key roles in maintaining composure and turning adversity into motivation. The team’s focus now lies squarely on delivering a disciplined performance and proving that no off-field distraction can shake their resolve.
As the lights go up at Kai Tak Stadium, Bangladesh’s mission is clear: silence the noise, rise above the challenges, and make a statement through football.
