Montreal Tigers saw their title hopes dashed in the Canada Super Sixty final as Brampton Blitz cruised to victory, chasing down a modest target in just 5.5 overs. Despite a spirited 29 from Shakib Al Hasan, Montreal were bowled out for 69, a total that proved far too low to defend.

The final, held in Vancouver, saw Montreal lose the toss and bat first. Their innings quickly fell apart as Brampton’s bowlers took control. Australian batter Josh Brown was dismissed without scoring, and although opener Dilpreet Bajwa managed a brisk 18 off 8 balls, no other batter apart from Shakib reached double figures.

Shakib provided a brief counterattack with a 12-ball cameo that included 2 fours and 3 sixes, but lacked support from the other end. His 29 was the only standout performance in an otherwise dismal batting display.

Brampton’s bowlers were relentless. Dillon Heyliger led the attack with four wickets, while David Wiese and Chris Greaves claimed three each. The Tigers’ total of 69 never looked enough, and Brampton set about the chase with confidence.

Opener Will Smeed fell early for 7, but Martin Guptill and James Vince took the game away with a 53-run partnership. Vince struck 34 from 16 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Guptill remained unbeaten on 23 from 13.

Brad Currie took both wickets for Montreal, but with the match effectively decided within six overs, there was no opportunity for Shakib to bowl.

Having played a key role in the semi-final with the ball, Shakib was left frustrated as he watched his team’s defeat unfold without getting a chance to influence the game further.

It was a disappointing end to the tournament for the Montreal Tigers, whose hopes of lifting the trophy faded despite their captain’s best efforts.
