BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has stated there can be no compromise on the question of democracy and that the people must remain united until a people-based government is established.

Shamsuzzaman Dudu made these remarks at a discussion meeting organised by the ’24 July Joddha Andolan Central Committee at the Jatiya Press Club on Wednesday.

He said, “Our work is not finished just because we have ousted the murderous government of the Awami League. What is needed now is a genuine national election and the formation of a government based on the will of the people. Until a people’s government is established, we all must remain united. There can be no compromise on the question of democracy. At the same time, the families of the martyrs and injured in the July movement must be rehabilitated.

Dudu added, “BNP has not come to power yet, is not currently in power, has no MPs, is not in the government, so why should BNP bear the responsibility for the failures? There is a government currently in power, and we must scrutinise there.”

Shamsuzzaman Dudu further said, “A neighbouring country has assisted in destroying democracy in Bangladesh. Even after three farcical elections, it recognised them as successful elections. It even garlanded Sheikh Hasina. This proves that this neighbouring country on the side of the Bangladeshi people, but on the side of a single party.”

The discussion meeting was chaired by ’24 July Joddha Andolan Central Committee Convener Md Rezaul Karim Reza and conducted by Member Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun. Among those present at the discussion were BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Executive Committee member Abu Naser Md Rahmatullah, Save the Country, Save the People Movement President KM Rokibul Islam Ripon, and others.
