The “Sompritir Shikkharthi Jote,” a panel backed by Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, has unveiled a 33-point election manifesto for the upcoming Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election.
The manifesto outlines various reforms to be implemented over the next 12 months.
The manifesto was officially announced by the vice president (VP) candidate, Ibrahim Hossain (Roni), on Wednesday at the university’s Buddijibi Square.
The panel’s manifesto highlights nine key areas, including accommodation, transportation, healthy food, a safe and green campus, resolving session jams, automation, education, research and career development, creating a women-friendly campus, and welfare activities.
The nine focus points were read out by Sajjat Hossain Munna, the AGS candidate of the Shompreeeti Shikkharthi Jote panel. He said, “Inspired by the nine-point agenda from July, we have included nine focus points in our manifesto.”
The full 33-point manifesto addresses issues such as resolving the housing crisis, increasing and modernising shuttle bus services, ensuring safe bus services, providing affordable and healthy food, addressing session jams, improving conditions for students in cottages and messes, holding regular CUCSU elections, creating a fascism-free campus, upholding the values of the Liberation War and the July Revolution, providing maternity leave, and developing women-friendly common rooms.
The manifesto includes plans to prevent sexual harassment and cyberbullying, improve the learning environment, and increase research funding. It also aims to create a student-friendly library, ensure access to healthcare, and provide affordable medical treatment.
Plans for enhancing campus safety, creating a green campus, and addressing issues in halls and faculties are also included. The manifesto calls for developing prayer rooms, promoting literature and cultural activities, and protecting the rights of all ethnic groups.
Additionally, it proposes introducing automation systems, improving higher education and skill development, and securing rights and scholarships for disabled students. It also includes building the TSC and Central Auditorium, expanding sports facilities, and setting up a legal aid cell. Other plans include improving access to official emails, strengthening alumni coordination, establishing a mental health council, and providing on-campus job opportunities.
