A special monitoring cell to oversee cases related to the July mass uprising has been formed, said Rezaul Karim Mallik, the newly appointed DIG of Dhaka range.

The cell will operate from his office and will be responsible for examining all aspects of the cases, including direct engagement with plaintiffs, victims, and families of those killed or injured during the mass uprising to ensure proper legal procedures are followed.

The announcement came during a press conference at the Dhaka range headquarters in Segunbagicha on Sunday afternoon, attended by senior police officials.

As part of enhanced investigative measures, complaint boxes will be installed across all police stations, district police circle offices, and police facilities throughout Dhaka. DIG Mallik confirmed that CCTV cameras have already been installed at all relevant police stations to support these efforts.

The DIG issued strict instructions to all Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Officers-in-Charge (OCs), emphasising that no leniency should be shown towards those accused of violence and killings during the July uprising.

He also directed them to maintain vigilant to prevent any activities by banned organisations.

In a move to improve public service, DIG Mallik revealed plans to launch a “Talk to DIG” mobile application that will enable citizens across Dhaka range’s 98 police stations in 13 districts to directly communicate with his office.

The app will serve as both a service portal and crime reporting tool, with guaranteed complete confidentiality for informants.

“Our goal is to transform every police station into an institution that earns the trust and affection of the public,” he stated reaffirming the police force’s commitment to public service.
