BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasised that those who want to bring social change and improve the lives of ordinary people must build strong organisations.
He stated, “A revolution can only succeed when there is an organisation. Without organisation, revolution is impossible.”
Fakhrul made these remarks on Friday afternoon at a memorial meeting held at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium of Bangla Academy in Dhaka in honour of Comrade Badruddin Umar, who passed away at the age of 94 on 7 September this year.
He said, “The main reason for the current sense of despair is the lack of organisation. Without a revolutionary organisation, revolution cannot happen.”
He further stressed, “Those who want to bring revolution and transform society must not only strengthen their organisations but also reach out to the people.”
Speaking about Comrade Badruddin Umar, Fakhrul said, “I did not get to interact with Comrade Badruddin Umar very often, but I had the chance to talk with him at length. He dedicated his entire life to an uncompromising ideological struggle. For those of us involved in politics, he is an ideal. I don’t know how much the younger generation has learned from him, but his struggle continues to guide our path.”
The memorial meeting began with a one-minute silence to honour Badruddin Umar. The event also featured a performance of the song ‘Communist International’ and a screening of a documentary.
