The elections for the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are scheduled to be held on 4 October, with the deadline for nominating councillors now extended to 22 September.
Initially, the nomination deadline was 17 September, which was extended first to 19 September, and now again to accommodate further nominations ahead of the crucial vote.
One of the most notable developments is the confirmation of former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal as a councillor. Tamim has secured his nomination from Old DOHS Sports Club, after earlier speculation that he might be nominated by Gulshan Cricket Club did not come to fruition. He is being widely discussed as a potential candidate for the post of BCB President.
Under the BCB Constitution, the 25-member Board of Directors is elected by councillors from three categories:
-
Category-1: Ten directors are elected by representatives from regional and district cricket associations (covering 64 districts and 8 divisions).
-
Category-2: Twelve directors are elected by councillors from Dhaka-based clubs. There are 76 eligible voters in this category.
-
Category-3: One director is elected by representatives of “other organisations”, while two directors are nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC).
Following these elections, the BCB President is selected by the newly formed Board of Directors.
Although the BCB has not yet published the official list of councillors, a substantial number of confirmed nominations, especially from Dhaka’s club cricket scene, have already surfaced.
