Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has made history by becoming the first bank in Bangladesh to connect through Starlink satellite communication, a significant step towards innovation and efficiency in the country’s financial technology sector.
The official launch ceremony took place on September 9 at the bank’s head office in Dhaka. This collaboration with Starlink, the satellite internet service provider by SpaceX, positions EBL as a leader in adopting advanced technologies for a more secure and inclusive financial system.
The event was attended by key figures, including Ahmed Shaheen, additional managing director of EBL, Osman Ershad Faiz, additional managing director and chief operating officer, Zahidul Haque, chief technology officer of EBL; and Sharful Alam, CEO of Felicity IDC (Starlink service provider in Bangladesh), along with other senior officials from both organisations.
