Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman met with President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Monday.
In the morning, General Waker-uz-Zaman visited the residence of the chief adviser at Jamuna, where they had a meeting. Later, he proceeded to Bangabhaban for a meeting with the president.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Army chief also met with Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate press release, the Army chief had traveled to China on a government visit on August 21. He returned to the country late Wednesday night.
During his visit, General Waker-uz-Zaman met with senior Chinese military and civilian officials, including General Chen Hui, the Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Forces.
Discussions were held on bilateral interests, including assistance with the return of Rohingya refugees.
The ISPR press release mentioned that on August 22, upon arrival at the PLA headquarters in China, the Army Chief was accorded a “Guard of Honor.”
He then met with General Chen Hui, where they discussed strategic cooperation, mutual communication between the peoples of both countries, and assistance regarding the return of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens. They also discussed China’s support for the development of Bangladesh’s military industry.
On Sunday, the chief adviser also met with the leaders of Bangladesh’s three main political parties – BNP, Jamaat, and NCP. During the meeting, the Chief Adviser reaffirmed that the national election would be held by February next year.
Additionally, on Tuesday, the chief adviser is scheduled to meet with the leaders of seven more political parties. According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the meeting will take place at 5pm at the State Guest House Jamuna.
