BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been readmitted to a hospital in Dhaka, falling ill again shortly after returning to the country following eye treatment in Thailand.

The matter was confirmed in the early hours of Wednesday (August 20) by Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing.

According to Khan, Fakhrul returned to Dhaka from Thailand on Monday evening. Despite his recent medical procedure, he attended a meeting with party leaders at the Chairperson’s Gulshan office, which lasted until nearly 11:30 PM.

After returning to his residence, the leader began to feel unwell. Upon learning of his condition, BNP Standing Committee member and physician, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, took him to United Hospital.

Khan said Fakhrul was admitted under the care of Professor Dr. N A M Momenuzzaman around 1:00 AM. He was placed under observation for monitoring.

In an update at 2:20 AM, Dr. Zahid Hossain shared that the Secretary General’s condition had stabilized and that “he is now doing well.”

Fakhrul, along with his wife, had traveled to Bangkok, for eye treatment on August 13. He returned to Bangladesh six days later after completing his medical care.
