The government has suspended 18 officers from the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB), including its former chief, Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid, over allegations of misconduct.

The suspension, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, affects a range of senior officials, including three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), six Additional DIGs, four Superintendents of Police (SPs), four Additional SPs, and one Assistant SP.

The suspension is being enforced under Rule 3(g) of the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, which pertains to the charge of “absconding,” a punishable offense. The officers will remain suspended under Rule 12(1) of the same regulations. During this period, they will receive subsistence allowances.

Details regarding the specific allegations or the ongoing investigations remain unclear, as the notification did not provide further information. The suspension marks a serious step in the government’s efforts to address alleged misconduct within the law enforcement agency.
