BRAC Bank has appointed former finance secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury as an independent director, adding a veteran of public finance, audit and banking oversight to its board.
The bank announced the appointment on Monday.
Chowdhury previously served as finance secretary and Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh. He also chaired Sonali Bank and worked on public financial management reforms with the World Bank and the UK Department for International Development.
His appointment brings experience in fiscal governance, public debt management and institutional reform to the board.
BRAC Bank Chairperson Meheriar M Hasan said Chowdhury’s experience in policymaking, financial management and institutional oversight would strengthen the board’s governance and strategic decision-making.
Chowdhury also worked extensively on public-sector financial management reform, government accounting systems and accountability. He received the Jana Prashasan Award in 2017 for his contribution to public-service delivery.
He currently serves as chairperson of the Board of Governors of INAFI Bangladesh and as financial adviser to Akijinsaf Group, according to the bank.
Chowdhury holds a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance with distinction from the University of Birmingham, a Master of Commerce and a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Chittagong and a diploma in public-sector audit and accounts from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in London.
BRAC Bank said he has also authored and contributed to publications on public-sector audit, financial reporting and public financial management.
