An indefinite blockade will take effect on the tourist road in Sajek Union under Baghaichhari Upazila, Rangamati starting from 6am on Sunday.

The action was jointly announced by Karbari Association and Sajek Gono Odhikar Rokkha Committee on Saturday.

However, ambulances carrying patients, fire service vehicles, and media transport will be exempt from the blockade.

According to the statement, the two groups had previously given a 48-hour ultimatum during a rally at Ujobazar in Sajek on 8 October, demanding the removal of members of Santu Larma-led JSS from the area.

The blockade was called after the deadline expired without the removal of JSS members.

The joint statement also alleged that security forces harassed innocent residents during house searches last night and threatened prominent local figures, prompting the blockade to press home their demands.

The leaders have urged vehicle owners, transport labour union leaders, tourists, and members of the general public to refrain from operating any vehicles on Sajek tourist road.
