Justin Timberlake has taken a playful trip down memory lane after a viral social media post revived one of his most unusual musical habits: beatboxing, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
A creator named Hannah Young recently shared a video recalling how Timberlake would sometimes interrupt songs in the early 2000s with vocal percussion, joking that nobody ever questioned why he was making drum sounds when actual drums were available.
Timberlake joined the joke in the comments, admitting that he still wonders about that phase of his career.
“I don’t know how to apologise enough for whatever those ambitions were. Too many boots. Too many cats. I hope you can forgive me,” he wrote.
The singer also warned fans that he could return to beatboxing, adding, “I can’t promise I won’t do it again. God help us all.”
Timberlake’s beatboxing became a regular part of *NSYNC’s performances during the 2000 ‘No Strings Attached’ tour. His vocal percussion also featured on the group’s 2001 hit ‘Pop’.
He revisited the subject during a 2023 appearance on ‘Hot Ones’, calling his tour beatboxing interludes “slightly regrettable”, while former bandmate Lance Bass described them as “iconic”.
