Police detained four people, including expelled Jubo Dal leader Ferdous Ahmed Simon and his brother, following an alleged attack on a man in the capital’s Banglamotor area late Thursday night.
Mohammad Ibne Mizan, commissioner of the Tejgaon division, confirmed the detention.
According to police, Simon, his brother and two others were detained after a man named Sohan was allegedly assaulted and sustained a bleeding head injury in the Banglamotor area.
Police said an agitated crowd had surrounded the four following the incident. Additional police were deployed to the area, after which officers rescued the four and took them into custody.
The commissioner said the incident may have originated from previous enmity between the parties.
Meanwhile, Simon has been accused of attacking Sohan, 45, with a weapon following an altercation and firing two blank rounds.
As Simon allegedly attempted to flee the scene, an angry mob set fire to his motorcycle, according to reports.
Sohan was later rescued in an injured condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors treated several wounds to his head and administered stitches.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the firing are under investigation.
