The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has called for a nationwide movement demanding the removal of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the immediate suspension of the voter list revision process, and full independence for the Election Commission.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Mumbai on Thursday.
The protest campaign is scheduled to be launched on Friday at 4pm on Thursday from in front of Gate No 6 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park in Mumbai.
Throughout the month of October, continuous demonstrations and public outreach programmes will take place across various parts of the country, culminating in a final assembly at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Speaking at the press conference, CJP National Convenor and Founder Abhijit Dipke launched a sharp critique of the current electoral system.
Dipke said that in a democracy, the public elects the government, but currently, the government is deciding who gets to be a voter, adding that no faith remains in the electoral system under present conditions.
The party formally outlined three core demands;
The resignation and removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside an investigation and criminal action against him.
The immediate suspension of voter list revisions under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, and conducting elections in accordance with the 2025 voter list.
The establishment of a fully independent and transparent framework for appointing Election Commissioners with the participation of civil society representatives.
Ruling out any possibility of an alliance or cooperation with other political parties, Dipke clarified that the CJP intends to function strictly as an independent pressure group and will not accept assistance from any political organisation.
Other senior figures present at the press conference included CJP All-India leader in-charge Ajinkya Shinde, National Secretary Afrin Nawaz, and National Spokesperson Meher.
